I try not to pick favorites. Really, I do. But this gorgeous Jekyll Island family beach session… well, it makes it very difficult.
I met Rick at the monthly real estate investment meetup that my husband and I host here in Savannah. We got to talking about parent life, and when I realized just how much we had in common, I knew we were destined to be friends! So of course, when he contacted me a few weeks later and asked about scheduling a beach family session, I was thrilled!
We started at Driftwood Beach at Jekyll Island, which is, hands down, my favorite beach in Georgia (so far!) I love this picturesque beach because there is so much exploring to do. And I loved shooting here with this particular family because they LOVE to explore!
The boys are super well versed in climbing and exploring nature. This is great because it gave me several opportunities to pull Mom and Dad aside and steal some more romantic moments! I loved photographing the connection between Rick & Carly. They have such an honest and comfortable connection, it was so easy to get great portraits with just a little mild direction here and there. Honestly, this session was almost more of a documentary session because we did so little posing!
As the sun began to set, we headed over to the other side of the island to catch one of the most gorgeous, warm end-of-summer sunsets I’ve ever witnessed. Rick & Carly frequent this area of the island, but I’d never been, so this was a real treat for me! As we waited for the sun to get a bit lower, we explored together and I got to learn about this gorgeous, historical vacation spot.
Carly told me they hadn’t had professional engagement or wedding photos done, so we wrapped up the session with a few cute shots of just Mom & Dad. I always love pulling Mom & Dad aside at the end of a session and capturing their love—after all, their love is what this family was built on!
I absolutely adore this session, and this family! I’d been craving a family beach session, and now that I got spoiled with such a wonderful one, I want more! Although this was a late summer session, fall and winter beach sessions are gorgeous, too. Blankets, snuggles, and all the beautiful neutral tones…
